Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr. U.S. Courthouse was filled with joy and anticipation Wednesday morning as twenty-five individuals from across the globe became citizens of the United States in a moving naturalization ceremony.

The Honorable Steven N. Limbaugh Jr., Senior U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri, administered the Oath of Allegiance, officially welcoming the petitioners into full citizenship. Distinguished state leaders were on hand to celebrate the milestone. Missouri Governor. Kehoe and State Treasurer Vivek Malek delivered remarks that blended personal reflection with encouragement for the new citizens.

After receiving certificates of citizenship, the new Americans were invited to register to vote with the assistance of Cape Girardeau County Clerk Kara Simmers, marking their first step as active participants in civic life.
Governor Kehoe praised the determination of the new citizens, calling their commitment “a reminder of the strength and promise that comes with becoming part of the American story.” As families celebrated afterward, the ceremony stood as both a personal triumph for the new citizens and a reminder of the values that unite communities across Southeast Missouri.

Malek, who immigrated from India as a student at Southeast Missouri State University before building a career in law and public service, shared his journey of pursuing the American dream. He reminded the audience that the privileges of citizenship carry responsibilities, most importantly participating in democracy through voting.“Some say the American dream is fading,” Malek said. “I say it is alive and well—because I have lived it, and I am still living it.”
