“The purpose of this event was simple,” said organizer Ta Juan Parish. “We wanted to create space for minority business owners to connect—with one another, with the community, and with resources that can help them thrive.”

Founded to meet a need in Southeast Missouri, MBDA was created to address the lack of accessibility to resources, networks, and opportunities for businesses from historically underserved and marginalized communities. The organization is dedicated to empowering local Black-owned and multicultural businesses through advocacy, education, and support.

The event introduced attendees to MBDA its mission, vision, and upcoming programs—including future workshops and collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting business sustainability and growth. Participants also had the opportunity to share information about their businesses, showcase products, and make new professional connections.

“In the vibrant landscape of Cape Girardeau and the Southeast Missouri Bootheel, minority entrepreneurs can play a vital role in the region’s economic growth,” said Lloyd Williams MBDA president  “Our goal is to ensure that they not only survive, but thrive—through community partnerships, access to capital, and visibility.”

MBDA’s emerging network represents a community of collaborators—business owners supporting one another through shared experiences, mentorship, and mutual encouragement. The Alliance plans to host regular networking events and continue building bridges between entrepreneurs, local institutions, and resource providers.

As MBDA-Cape Girardeau lays the groundwork for a thriving ecosystem of minority-owned businesses, the organization invites entrepreneurs, professionals, and community members to join in its mission.

“At MBDA, your success is our mission,” said organizers. “Together, we can build a future of resilience, innovation, and prosperity.”
