Cape Girardeau, MO (September 25, 2025)

PORCH Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming South Cape into a thriving, sustainable neighborhood, has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the U.S. Bank Foundation.

The funding will directly support programs that expand access to first-time homeownership, enrich financial education, and build community resilience for South Cape residents.

Since 2023, PORCH Initiative has assisted more than 10 families to unlock first-time homeownership reinvesting over $1.2 million into South Cape real estate and boosting the municipal tax base by more than $5,000.

Beyond the numbers, PORCH is tackling systemic challenges in a historically underinvested
neighborhood with low homeownership rates, food insecurity, and limited access to essential services.
“Generational wealth is generational health,” said Tameka Randle, CEO of PORCH Initiative. “Together
with partners like U.S. Bank, we are building a foundation for lasting opportunity in South Cape.”

The grant will support initiatives such as PORCH’s Homeowner Mentorship Program, which partners
first-time buyers with experienced homeowners and alumni to provide practical guidance and community support. This peer-to-peer model helps ensure long-term housing stability while building stronger neighborhoods. “Safe and stable housing helps children, families and communities thrive.

“Working with PORCH Initiative to create access to housing and help first-time homebuyers gain the financial knowledge and tools to own and maintain a home is an investment that will benefit generations to come,” said Kristen Polchinski,
community affairs manager at U.S. Bank.

U.S. Bank is committed to powering human potential and creating lasting change in communities. The
bank does this through the Community Possible platform, including philanthropy, community investments
and team member volunteerism.
